With no major injury news to report, Avram Grant has been discussing the challenge he has faced in continuing the side's good form, and the prospect of facing neighbours Fulham tomorrow.
It is a rare pleasure for Grant to have no further injury worries following Saturday's 2-1 win over Newcastle United as he prepares his side for the short trip to Fulham, hoping to better the 0-0 draw achieved at Stamford Bridge in late September.
'I know what I want, to win this game,' Grant said, when questioned on his wishes for 2008.
'It was a very tough game in the first game against them, my second league game,' he recalled. 'We didn't have time to prepare ourselves so we didn't play so well, but we had a lot of chances, and then the red card for Didier Drogba. They did well and fought back and I think it will be the same tomorrow.'
Grant faces a new man in the opposition dugout tomorrow, and he has plenty of respect for Roy Hodgson, though confesses he is not well known to him.
'I don't know him, I know he worked in a lot of clubs, and is a good manager,' Grant explained. 'I met him on a few occasions at UEFA meetings, and I wish him all the best starting Wednesday.'
The Israeli has now been in charge at Stamford Bridge a little over three months, and admits he is facing a challenge in maintaining the club's form, given the current injury situation.
'It was a big challenge [for the club] last year with two players missing, now it is a bigger challenge, so it's a big challenge for me,' he conceded.
'I am not happy from this, but we are in a profession where it sometimes happens, even if it is unusual. I can speak about the problems for a long time but I prefer to speak about the players that play. In all the last three months the squad played well and continued winning and I am happy from this.'
With the January transfer window now just hours away, the media spotlight is fixed firmly on clubs' trading activity, but when asked about the prospect of signing Bolton's Nicolas Anelka, Grant remained tight-lipped on Chelsea's intentions for the coming month.
'No news for the moment,' the Israeli confirmed. 'They [the media] link us to 2000 players, Anelka is one of them. When we have news we will tell you.
'We are following players, but we don't want only to bring players for the next two months, we want to look for more than this.
'We need to keep winning games which is not easy, but possible, and then to make things better. We don't want to think about the next two months, Chelsea is bigger than this,' Grant added.
If we do keep achieving results, there is no reason why we won't be there or thereabouts as the title race hots up, something that hasn't escaped Grant's attention.
'We are still in the race for all the titles, in a good position, and need to focus on what we are doing, not the problems. If we can, we are in the race,' he confirmed.
