Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Branislav Ivanovic from Lokomotiv Moscow.
The Blues have been trailing the Serbia international for some time and they have now agreed a fee with Lokomotiv for the central defender.
Ivanovic came to the attention of a host of clubs during last summer's European Under-21 Championship and Chelsea have been trailing his signature ever since.
Chelsea have also won a work permit for the 23-year-old with the move subject to the player agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.
A Chelsea statement read: "Chelsea football club can confirm it has agreed terms with Lokomotiv Moscow for the transfer of Branislav Ivanovic.
"A work permit application has also been successful for the player.
"The transfer is now subject to the agreement of personal terms and passing of the medical."
Ivanovic will become Chelsea's second signing of the transfer window following their capture of Nicolas Anelka from Bolton last week.
